Treatment for Night Sweats

If you are a constant sufferer of night sweats there are a few things you can do in order to minimize or remove them completely from your life. However the first thing you must do is understand the causes of the condition. Most often if you understand the cause you're able to remove the symptoms and occurrence of the condition. However, if you're not able to understand the cause of the night sweats the following are some helpful treatment methods that may be able to remove the irritating and sometimes painful night sweats that occur.

A cold shower before bed

You'd be amazed at what this does to your body and how it makes you feel. It is difficult to be able to withstand the freezing temperature but there is a method to the madness. First jump into the shower with the temperature being normal. From that point slowly decrease the amount of hot water until there is none left and the only water you're receiving is cold. It does take a l ittle while to get used to but you only have to have a cold shower for a minute to feel the full effects. Once you're done, jump into bed and you'll notice a big difference to your night sweats. You probably now won't have any.

Make sure there is enough oxygen in the room in which you sleep. A lack of oxygen can be the leading cause for nightsweats. Leave a window slightly open to allow for proper circulation.

Mild temperature

Make sure the temperature in your room is rather cool. This helps your body avoid a high temperature and thus night sweats.

Fluid intake

Place water or fruit juice by your bed allowing for sips through the night if need be. Make sure your fluids are high and that you are well hydrated.

Avoid any intense exercise before bed. You do not want a high heart rate or blood pressure in the period before bed as it will increase the chances of suffering from night sweats. Having exercise before bed will also make it more difficult for you to actually fall asleep.

Relaxation exercises

Learn some relaxation exercises that will calm your nerves. It might be good idea to practice them before bed allowing your body to be relaxed and ready to sleep before you even hop into bed.

Alcohol and Stimulants

Avoid consuming any alcohol or any stimulants before bed as this will cause further sleeping problems and probably promote night sweats and terrors. The best thing to do is to avoid drinking alcohol for a period of at least 2 hours before you hit the pillow. Further to that it will help also if you do not eat at least 2 hours before bedtime. Your metabolism will thank you for it and you'll also see a reduction in the occurrence of night sweats.
